Silver Lining Pattaya @ Zire Wongamat

Silver Lining is a new restaurant that has opened in the Soi 18 area of Wongamat. The restaurant has a beachfront location and is part of the Zire Condominium which is situated between Northpoint and Sky Beach. The restaurant boasts an ‘Iron Man’ chef and specialises in Japanese and Italian food although a range of other Western and Thai and dishes are also served.

Unsurprisingly, one of the most appealing features of the restaurant is its location. There are stunning views to be had looking across to Koh Larn and it is another perfect place to take in a romantic sunset. The restaurant has an outside (covered) eating area as well as an air conditioned area to cater for all tastes. The decor is excellent and in keeping with something that you would expect from a reputable developer such as Raimon Land making this a great place to go with family and friends.

The current client base seems a mix of Thais, Chinese, Russians and Western Europeans all happily mixing together and although the restaurant is far from expensive, although certainly not cheap, it does seem to appeal more to the more affluent people in these groups. There doesn’t appear to be any written dress code for dining in the outside area but smart casual seems to be the order of the day in the air conditioned section meaning that the restaurant does retain a certain element of class – and long may this continue.

From my experience the quality of the food was good and served relatively quickly although in a typically Thai way all the dishes were served at random intervals rather than when you would expect – for example the main course coming before the starter! The waiters and waitresses were reasonable but do give off the impression of being new to the job, often resorting to several hovering around your table trying to establish what you actually want. I have been a couple of times now and it has to be said that my second experience was better than the first so it does appear that things are moving in the right direction.

All in all, perhaps mainly for the location, this is certainly a restaurant that I would recommend. The service could be better but this is Thailand and Silver Service comes at a cost and you certainly don’t pay anything like the prices that you would at a 5 star restaurant so it is perhaps unfair to criticise.
